kisten, een kunstinstallatie
Together with Marjolijn Guldemond, I participated in the 2010 edition of Galerie op de Rotte, a floating summer art exhibition on a stretch of the Rotte canal in the centre of Rotterdam. MVRDV, Studio Makking&Bey, Atelier van Lieshout and 2012 Architecten are amongst past participants.
We were invited to respond to the city’s relationship with water. We decided to work on a fisherman’s dock, a defining spot on the edge of city and water. Both of us being trained as architects, we transformed a lost pile of freight boxes on the quay into a small new territory on the water. The (negative) shape of the dock served as mediator in the transformation, exactly fitting the set of boxes. We did a performance that brought the audience actively into the transformation.
